Now accepting volunteers for the March 21, 2026 cemetery clean-up work party.
The Longoria Cemetery in Blue Town started as a family owmed cemetery, and ownership has been passed down through the generations. The last owner of record was Minerva Longoria Pearcy.
For generations, the Longoria Cemetery has had no formal or paid maintenance program to keep the grounds presentable. Instead, it was the long-standing custom for family members to personally care for the resting places of their loved ones. Families would visit, clean the plots, trim vegetation, and ensure that this sacred place remained dignified and respected.
As the Rio Grande Valley continues to grow and families become more geographically dispersed, an unintended consequence has emerged—family history and traditions are not always passed down to younger generations. Along with those stories, the shared responsibility of caring for the cemetery has also faded. Many younger family members simply have not been taught the tradition of tending to the graves of those who came before them.
As a result, the cemetery has gradually fallen into a state of disrepair.
The purpose of this effort is to bring awareness to the current condition of the Longoria Cemetery and to issue a call to action to all descendants of Juan Miguel Longoria and the Santa Maria line of the Longoria family. This historic resting place deserves our collective attention, care, and stewardship.
With organization, volunteer effort, and modest financial support, we can restore dignity to this sacred ground and ensure that it is preserved for future generations of Longoria descendants.

The Longoria Cemetery Awareness Initiative was formed to preserve and honor the legacy of the descendants of Juan Miguel Longoria and the Reynosa line of Longorias laid to rest in Blue Town, Texas. Our efforts focus on documenting those interred, restoring neglected grounds, preventing further deterioration, and establishing a sustainable maintenance plan for future generations.
Through community outreach, descendant engagement, volunteer workdays, and structured fundraising, we are building both awareness and infrastructure. Our mission is simple: protect this historic burial ground, restore its dignity, and ensure it remains a place of respect, remembrance, and family pride for generations to come.

The Longoria Cemetery initiative is committed to building a structured, sustainable network of volunteers and donors dedicated to restoring and preserving this historic family burial ground in Blue Town, Texas. Our approach combines clear organization, transparent communication, and defined project goals.
Volunteer efforts will be coordinated through scheduled workdays with assigned teams for debris removal, vegetation control, headstone preservation, and grounds maintenance. Donor contributions will be directed toward essential infrastructure needs — including dumpster services, equipment rental, storm debris removal, and long-term maintenance planning.
By pairing hands-on participation with modest, recurring financial support, we aim to create a reliable system of stewardship that honors our ancestors while ensuring the cemetery’s care for generations to come.
